About Rock Paper Scissors

Rock Paper Scissors is a three-way cycle of choices. The interesting decision is how predictable you become over several throws.

This original version offers three computer behaviours and fixed-length matches, with a full reveal history. These are replayable matches, not numbered levels.

How to play Rock Paper Scissors

  1. 01Choose Rock, Paper or Scissors. Rock beats scissors, scissors beat paper, and paper beats rock. Matching gestures tie.
  2. 02Play exactly 15, 30 or 60 throws. Every throw, including a tie, counts toward the match length. Most winning throws wins the match; equal scores draw.
  3. 03Choose a random opponent, a frequency reader or a sequence reader. The computer commits before your current input. History readers use only completed throws and sometimes choose randomly.
  4. 04Inspect the latest reveal, full throw history and your recent gesture counts. Restart or change settings to begin again. Browser-local saving resumes the current match when available.

Rock Paper Scissors controls

Throw
Click, tap or focus a gesture and press Enter or Space. The result appears immediately; there is no reaction-time advantage.
Match setup
Opponent and length changes start a fresh match. Restart keeps those settings. New match is available after the finish.
Saving
Valid match history and the pending computer choice resume locally. Restoring or changing settings never counts as a player throw. Storage is optional.

Rock Paper Scissors: levels and progress

Choose 15 throws for a quick match, 30 for a longer read or 60 for more opportunities to change a pattern. Ties use a throw too.

Random play ignores history. Frequency play counters recent common gestures. Sequence play predicts transitions when enough evidence exists; both readers include random exploration and are beatable without a guaranteed winning formula.

Rock Paper Scissors tips and strategies

Watch the counts

If one gesture dominates your last 24 throws, the frequency reader may counter it. Deliberately rebalance.

Break a transition

Always switching rock to paper makes that transition predictable even when total gesture counts look balanced.

Respect chance

Uniform random play offers no exploitable history. A previous result does not make the next gesture due.

  • Mix your gestures rather than repeating a favourite.
  • A sequence reader can notice what follows your last gesture. Try changing that transition.
  • Short matches contain plenty of chance. A few losses do not prove a strategy is bad.

Rock Paper Scissors FAQ

Does the computer see my current choice?

It chooses before your input and reveals that committed gesture afterward. History strategies only use earlier completed throws. This is a local game, not a tamper-proof competitive service.

Is this online multiplayer?

No. You play a computer in the browser. There are no accounts, network opponents or money stakes.

Do tied throws count?

Yes. This version uses a fixed number of throws including ties. It is not the first-to-two tournament format. Equal match scores end in a draw.

Can I undo a throw?

No. Once both gestures are revealed, the throw is final. Restart begins a new match.

What happens on refresh?

The match resumes when valid local storage is available, including the already chosen next computer gesture.

What does the recent distribution show?

It counts your last 24 completed gestures. The full history includes all throws in this match; no private input is sent as analytics.
