About Sokoban

Sokoban online is an original warehouse puzzle with 30 fixed, solvable levels. Boards are eight to ten tiles wide and high. The first three levels have one box each; later levels have two to four.

Any box can cover any target; cover all targets to finish. You may walk in either direction, but a box can only be pushed into a free neighboring tile. Each walk or push counts as a move; pushes also have their own counter.

How to play Sokoban

  1. 01Move one adjacent tile with the arrow keys or WASD. You can also use the direction buttons or tap a neighboring tile.
  2. 02Push a box into the next free tile; boxes cannot be pulled. Finish when all boxes cover the targets.
  3. 03Moves and pushes are counted separately. Undo restores the board and both counts; Restart resets the current level.

Sokoban controls

Keyboard
Focus the board, then use the arrow keys or WASD to move one tile at a time. Walls and boxes block the way; a box moves only when pushed into a free tile.
Touch
Tap a neighboring tile or use the direction buttons. Dragging boxes and tapping a whole route are not supported.
Undo and restart
Undo restores the previous board and both counters. Restart begins the current level again, and you can choose any level from the picker.

Sokoban: levels and progress

The 30 original levels are solvable. The first three use one box; each remaining level uses two to four. There is no gameplay timer; after a win the next level starts in three seconds unless you choose Stay here. The game does not promise an optimal move count.

After a win, the next level starts automatically in three seconds; choose Continue now to skip the wait or Stay here to cancel it. The last level stays on screen. Completed levels and the current level are saved locally, but reloading does not restore an unfinished board. The deadlock warning detects only boxes in non-goal wall corners; it is not a complete solver.

Sokoban tips and strategies

Keep a route open

Before pushing, check that the box can still reach its target and that you can get around to the next side you need.

Watch the corners

A box pushed into a wall corner without a target is stuck. The warning checks that case only, so review other box positions yourself.

Read both counters

Moves include walking and pushing; pushes also have their own counter. Undo restores both counts together with the board.

  • Plan an exit route before pushing a box. A box in a non-goal wall corner cannot be moved out.
  • The deadlock warning only checks non-goal wall corners. Other stuck arrangements may go undetected.

Sokoban FAQ

Can I pull boxes or move them by dragging?

No. Boxes move only when you push them one tile at a time. Use the direction keys, direction buttons, or tap an adjacent tile to walk.

Does the game save an unfinished board?

No. Completed levels and the current level are saved locally. Reloading restores the level, but starts it with a fresh board.

Does Sokoban have a timer or promise the fewest moves?

There is no gameplay timer or overall optimal-move guarantee. After a win, the next level starts in three seconds unless you choose Stay here; Continue now skips the wait. All 30 fixed layouts are solvable, but your route may use more moves than necessary.

Can boxes be pulled?

No. Boxes can only be pushed into a free adjacent tile.

Is my unfinished board saved?

No. Your completed levels and current level are saved locally; reloading starts that level with a fresh board.

Does the game detect every deadlock?

No. It warns about a box in a non-goal wall corner. Other deadlocks may not be detected.
