About Hex Blocks
Hex Blocks is a shape-fitting puzzle. Arrange the supplied hexagonal pieces inside a fixed outline and cover every cell without overlaps. This free hex blocks puzzle runs online with 99 original piece layouts, direct level selection, undo and restart. No download or account is needed.
The tray contains all the pieces needed for the current puzzle. Rotate a piece in 60-degree steps and use its numbered anchor to position it. This is a finite packing challenge: you do not wait for random new blocks or clear lines for an endless score.
How to play Hex Blocks
- 01Choose a hexagonal piece from the tray. Its numbered first cell is the placement anchor.
- 02Drag the piece to a board cell, or select it and tap a cell. Rotate in 60-degree steps before placing. Pieces cannot overlap or leave the outline.
- 03Fill the entire outline using every piece. Select a placed piece to take it back, or undo your last move.
Hex Blocks controls
- Mouse or touch
- Drag a tray piece onto a board cell, or select the piece and click or tap its anchor cell.
- Rotate and replace
- Choose a piece and use Rotate or press R before placing it; the board previews where it would land while you drag or hover. Select an already placed piece to return it to the tray.
- Keyboard
- Tab between pieces, Rotate and board cells; use Enter or Space to activate. Escape cancels the selected piece.
Hex Blocks: levels and progress
Levels 1–4 use a small seven-cell board. Levels 5–40 expand to 19 cells, and 41–99 use 37. The outlines repeat within these groups, but the divisions into pieces change; these are 99 distinct puzzles, not 99 distinct outlines. After the tutorial, pieces are connected shapes of 2–5 cells, with more pieces presented in scrambled orientations in later stages. Revised records are stored separately.
Every starting puzzle can be filled using its supplied pieces. All levels are selectable from the start. Completed levels are marked in this browser when storage is available; a reload begins a new arrangement rather than restoring unfinished placements.
Hex Blocks tips and strategies
Fit restrictive corners first
A long or bent piece has fewer possible positions at the edge than in open space. Test a corner placement before filling the center, then check that the remaining pieces can still reach every boundary cell.
Read the anchor, not just the silhouette
The numbered cell is the placement anchor. After rotating, selecting a board cell positions that anchor there; it does not center the whole piece on the cell. If a placement is rejected, try a different anchor before assuming the orientation is wrong.
- Start with the outline’s corners and the largest pieces. Check where a piece’s anchor lands after rotation.
- Keep narrow gaps in mind. Every starting puzzle has a solution; undo can free space for a different arrangement.
Hex Blocks FAQ
Is Hex Blocks free, and do I need to download it?
All 99 puzzles play directly in your browser, without a download, account or payment.
Is this an endless hex block line-clearing game?
This Hex Blocks puzzle is about fitting given pieces into a fixed outline. It has a completion goal rather than endless line clearing.
Why will a hexagonal piece not fit?
Every cell of the rotated piece must be inside the outline and unoccupied. Even one overlapping or out-of-bounds cell rejects the placement. Check the anchor and try another rotation.
Can I flip or mirror a piece?
You can rotate a piece through six orientations, but cannot mirror it. Use the supplied shapes as they are; the starting layout has a solution without reflected pieces.
What should I do if I leave a gap?
Select a placed piece to take it back, or use Undo. A gap may require rearranging several pieces rather than repeatedly rotating the last one. Restart restores the original empty board and tray.
Is there a time limit?
There is no countdown. Moves count changes to the arrangement, and you can explore a layout at your own pace.
