About Block Puzzle

Block Puzzle is a free online shape-placement game on an 8×8 board. Place any of the three supplied pieces without overlap, then clear complete rows and columns. Unlike Hex Blocks, you keep clearing lines and receiving new hands rather than filling a fixed outline.

There is no countdown. Each placed square earns one point, and clearing n lines at once adds 10 × n² points. A row and a column can clear together; their crossing square is removed once. This original paper-and-ink version uses fixed-orientation pieces, not falling blocks or a wood-textured board.

How to play Block Puzzle

  1. 01Select a piece, then tap the board for its top-left corner, or drag the piece there. Pieces keep their orientation.
  2. 02Complete any row or column to clear it. One point per placed square, plus 10 × the square of the number of lines cleared in one move.
  3. 03Use all three pieces before a new hand appears. The round ends when none of the remaining pieces fits. Undo can recover a move.

Block Puzzle controls

Mouse or touch
Drag a piece to the board, or select it and tap its top-left corner. The highlighted footprint shows whether it fits. Drag placement preserves the position where you grabbed the piece relative to its top-left corner.
Keyboard
Tab to choose a tray piece. Tab to the board, use arrow keys to choose its top-left corner and Enter or Space to place it. Escape cancels selection.
Undo and hint
Undo restores the previous arrangement, score and hand, including a new hand already dealt. Find a fit selects one legal placement, without promising it is the best choice.

Block Puzzle: levels and progress

This is an untimed score game with no numbered levels. A hand contains three random fixed-orientation shapes. New pieces appear only after all three have been used. If no remaining shape can fit, the round ends; Undo can reopen it.

Your highest score reached is saved on this browser when storage is available. Undo does not lower that best record. Reloading starts a fresh round; unfinished boards are not saved. Random hands are not guaranteed to leave a legal move indefinitely.

Block Puzzle tips and strategies

Keep a flexible pocket

A long strip accepts a line but not a square. Leave a compact open area as well, and check all three pieces before spending your last large gap.

Set up two lines

If a row and a column are each one square short at their crossing, one single block clears both and earns a 40-point line bonus. Plan the crossing while preserving space for the rest of the hand.

  • Leave room for long pieces and squares. Filling one small gap may block a larger shape.
  • Aim for intersecting rows and columns: clearing several lines together earns a larger bonus.

Block Puzzle FAQ

Is this block puzzle free to play?

Yes. Play in your browser on a phone or computer without a download or account.

Can I rotate blocks or keep playing forever?

Pieces cannot rotate. Hands are random and future play is not guaranteed. Undo restores your previous board and hand.

Why did the hand not refill?

Use all three pieces before a new group appears. There is no reroll button: you can place a different remaining piece or undo a previous placement.

Does Find a fit solve the whole round?

No. It highlights one currently legal placement. It does not foresee future random hands or choose an optimal strategy.

Is this Block Blast or a wood block puzzle?

This is an original block-clearing game with its own score rules and paper artwork. It is not affiliated with similarly named apps and does not reproduce their levels or artwork.
