Four in a Row
Choose a column and let your disc fall to its lowest open cell. Connect four horizontally, vertically or diagonally before the board fills. Play as Dark against the computer or share one device for local two-player.
About Four in a Row
Four in a Row is played on a board with 7 columns and 6 rows. Each disc falls to the lowest empty cell in its chosen column, and Dark takes the first turn.
Play as Dark against the computer, which plays Light, or choose local two-player mode to take turns on one device. Matches are not saved.
How to play Four in a Row
- 01The board has 7 columns and 6 rows. Dark moves first. In computer mode, you play Dark and the computer plays Light.
- 02Choose a column to drop a disc into its lowest empty cell. A full column cannot accept another disc.
- 03Connect at least four of your discs in a horizontal, vertical or diagonal line to win.
- 04If all 42 cells are filled and neither side has a winning line, the match is a draw. Restarting or changing modes starts a new match; matches are not saved.

Four in a Row: levels and progress
Four in a Row is a single-board match rather than a level campaign. Choose computer mode, where you are Dark and the computer is Light, or local two-player mode on one device.
The match ends when a player connects at least four discs horizontally, vertically or diagonally, or when all 42 cells are full with no winner. Match history is not saved.
Four in a Row tips and strategies
Watch every direction
Check horizontal, vertical and both diagonal lines after each move. A connection can form across several neighboring columns.
Plan around gravity
A disc always lands in the lowest empty cell. Consider how a move changes the available landing cells above it and may help either player later.
Build and block
Look for a move that creates a chance to connect four while watching for an immediate line your opponent could complete.
- Look for a move that extends one of your lines while also limiting the opponent’s next connection.
- Check both diagonal directions as well as rows and columns when looking for a winning line or a threat to block.
- A disc can only land on the lowest open cell in its column, so consider which cells it will uncover or occupy later.
Four in a Row FAQ
How do I win?
Connect at least four of your discs horizontally, vertically or diagonally before the other player does.
What happens when a column is full?
No more discs can be dropped into that column. Choose a column that still has an empty cell.
Can I play against a person or the computer?
Yes. Choose the computer opponent or local two-player mode on the same device. The computer is a casual opponent and is not guaranteed to find the strongest move.
Does the game save my match?
No. The current match is not saved. Restarting or switching modes begins a fresh board.
Can I choose any cell?
You choose a column, and the disc falls to its lowest empty cell. A full column cannot be played.
When is the match a draw?
When all 42 cells are occupied and neither player has connected four.
What does Undo do?
Against the computer, Undo returns to the start of your previous turn and removes the computer reply too. In local two-player mode, it takes back the last single move.
