Word Search
Find each listed English word in a letter grid. Choose a theme and difficulty, then trace each word in a straight line. The interface can be English or Chinese; the puzzle words stay in English.
About Word Search
Word Search is a free browser puzzle with three English word themes: Animals, Garden and Space. Every board has eight listed targets, and the interface can be shown in English or Chinese while the words remain English.
Choose a difficulty to set the grid size and allowed line directions. There is no gameplay timer or saved puzzle progress. After all eight targets are found, a fresh puzzle starts in three seconds unless you choose Stay here; Continue now skips the wait.
How to play Word Search
- 01Choose Animals, Garden or Space. Each puzzle has eight target words, and the word list and grid remain in English in either interface language.
- 02Easy uses an 8×8 grid with words running right or down. Normal uses a 10×10 grid with horizontal and vertical words. Hard uses a 12×12 grid and permits diagonal words too. A word can be selected from either endpoint.
- 03Click the first and last cells, or drag in a straight line. On touchscreens, Tap & scroll lets you swipe the board and tap both endpoints; choose Trace words to drag. With a keyboard, use the arrow keys to focus cells and press Enter or Space to select both endpoints; Escape cancels the current selection.
- 04Undo removes the most recently found word. Restart clears found words on the same board; New Game, a theme change or a difficulty change starts a fresh puzzle.
Word Search controls
- Mouse or touch
- Click the first and last cells of a word, or drag in a straight line from its first letter to its last. On touchscreens, use Tap & scroll to swipe the board and tap endpoints, or Trace words to drag. A selection must stay horizontal, vertical or, on Hard, diagonal.
- Keyboard
- Use the arrow keys to focus a cell. Press Enter or Space to set the first endpoint, move to the other endpoint, then press Enter or Space again. Escape cancels the current selection.
- Undo and restart
- Undo removes the most recently found word. Restart keeps the same board and clears its found-word list. New Game or changing the theme or difficulty creates a fresh puzzle.
Word Search: levels and progress
Each theme contains eight English target words. Easy uses an 8×8 grid with rightward and downward placements; Normal uses a 10×10 grid with horizontal and vertical placements.
Hard uses a 12×12 grid and permits all eight straight-line directions, including reverse and diagonal lines. Words may appear incidentally elsewhere in the grid, so a target is counted once when found.
Word Search tips and strategies
Begin with distinctive words
Look for a longer word or a less common letter pair first. Its pattern can be easier to recognize among the filler letters.
Scan in both directions
Read rows and columns from either end. On Hard, check diagonals in both slopes as well.
Use the remaining list
After each find, compare the remaining words by length and opening letters to decide which part of the board to scan next.
- Start with longer words or unusual letter combinations; they are often easier to trace through the grid.
- Check rows and columns in both reading directions. On Hard, add both diagonal directions to your scan.
- After finding a word, use the remaining list to narrow down which letters and lengths to look for next.
Word Search FAQ
Are the puzzle words in English?
Yes. You can switch the interface between English and Chinese, but the target words and letter grid stay in English.
Can I select a word backwards or diagonally?
You can select a word from either endpoint. Diagonal placements are part of Hard difficulty; Easy and Normal use horizontal or vertical lines.
Does the puzzle save my progress?
There is no gameplay timer or saved progress. After all eight words are found, another puzzle starts automatically in three seconds; choose Continue now or Stay here. Starting a new game or changing the theme or difficulty still begins a fresh puzzle.
Can I change the theme without keeping the current finds?
Changing the theme starts a new puzzle and clears the current found-word list. You can choose Animals, Garden or Space.
Can the same target appear more than once in the grid?
A target is guaranteed to be present, but matching letter sequences can also occur elsewhere by chance. Each listed word counts once.
Is there a timer or saved record?
There is no gameplay timer, and the current board and found words are not saved. A new puzzle starts three seconds after a win unless you choose Stay here; Continue now starts it immediately.
