About Memory Match

Memory Match is a free memory card game online. Turn over two cards and find matching pairs of flat pictograms. Matching cards stay face up; mismatches shake and turn back after a short pause. Chain consecutive matches into a combo, and complete the board using as few attempts as you can, or compare the time with your previous result on the same layout.

There are 99 original layouts, from six pairs to eighteen. Each symbol is its own pictogram in its own colour, so a card is told apart by both shape and hue, and every symbol appears twice. Play in your browser without a download or sign-up. This is a single-player matching game with local personal bests, rather than an online leaderboard or multiplayer competition.

How to play Memory Match

  1. 01Flip one card, then a different hidden card. Each symbol has its own pictogram and colour.
  2. 02Matching cards stay face up. After a mismatch, briefly read the pair, then choose another hidden card to continue or wait for the pair to turn back automatically.
  3. 03Match every pair to complete the round. Consecutive matches build a combo that a miss resets. Attempts count pairs of flips; the timer starts with your first flip and stops on completion.

Memory Match controls

Mouse or touch
Click or tap a hidden card, then a different hidden card. A mismatch stays readable for at least 350 milliseconds. After that, tap another hidden card to continue immediately, or let the pair turn back automatically at 850 milliseconds.
Keyboard
Tab to a hidden card and press Enter or Space to reveal it. Matched and temporarily unavailable cards cannot be selected again.
Start a fresh attempt
Restart resets the current flips, attempts, streak and timer. Previously saved personal bests remain. There is no Undo for card reveals.

Memory Match: levels and progress

Levels 1–20 have 6 pairs, 21–40 have 8, 41–60 have 10, 61–80 have 12, 81–90 have 15, and 91–99 have 18. Transitional tiers reduce abrupt memory-load jumps; revised records are stored separately. Every layout contains two copies of each symbol. Selecting the same level starts with the same arrangement, making repeat attempts comparable.

The timer starts on your first flip and stops when all pairs match. An attempt means a pair of flips, whether it matches or not. Personal bests prefer fewer attempts, using time to break a tie; records are local to this browser and are not restored after clearing its storage. Each match in a row raises your combo, a miss resets it, and the completion panel shows your highest combo of the round.

Memory Match tips and strategies

Remember a position before making a new guess

Use a location such as “top row, second card” for a revealed symbol. If its partner appears later, revisit that known location. Opening a card you already know can be more useful than revealing two new positions.

Compare like-for-like rounds

Six pairs need fewer successful attempts than eighteen, so compare your score with the same level’s personal best. First aim to avoid repeating a known mismatch; once the layout is familiar, try improving the time without adding guesses.

  • Notice a symbol’s position before flipping the next card. Revisit a known match rather than guessing repeatedly.
  • Layouts grow from 6 to 18 pairs. Compare your attempts and time against your own best for the same level.

Memory Match FAQ

Can I play this memory match card game for free?

Yes. The 99 layouts play online in your browser with no sign-up or download. Your best scores are stored locally.

What happens to my scores when I restart?

Restart clears the current timer and attempts, while keeping previous personal bests. Scores do not sync to other devices and can disappear when browser storage is cleared.

How do you play a memory card game?

Choose two different hidden cards. If their symbols match, leave them face up; otherwise remember their positions and try again after they turn back. Find every pair to finish.

How are attempts counted?

Each second flip completes one attempt. Both a successful pair and a mismatch add one attempt; the first flip on its own does not.

What is a combo?

Every pair you match right after another successful pair adds one to your combo, and a combo of two or more pops up on the table. A mismatch resets the current combo to zero. The completion panel shows the highest combo reached in that round, next to your time, attempts and personal best.

Can I play Memory Match with another person online?

This version is single-player. You can compare local attempts on the same device, but there are no online rooms, shared scores or multiplayer turns.

Why can’t I turn over a third card?

A mismatched pair has a short reading pause. After 350 milliseconds you can choose another hidden card to cover the pair and continue; otherwise it turns back automatically. Matched cards and the currently open pair cannot be selected again.
