About Nonogram

A nonogram is a picture logic puzzle. The number clues show the lengths of consecutive filled runs in each row and column; separate runs need at least one empty cell between them.

Choose from 36 original puzzles: six 5×5 pictures and 30 10×10 pictures. Every puzzle has one solution.

How to play Nonogram

  1. 01Each number gives the length of a consecutive run of filled cells in that row or column. Runs appear in order and have at least one empty cell between them.
  2. 02A line with no filled cells has a clue of 0. Compare the clues at both ends of a cell to decide whether it can be filled or crossed.
  3. 03Choose Fill, Cross or Erase, then click or drag across cells. A drag is one undoable action; Escape cancels the current gesture. Pan moves the view without changing cells.
  4. 04Use arrow keys to move focus, then Enter or Space to apply the selected tool. Press F for Fill, X for Cross, E for Erase, P for Pan and Escape to cancel.
  5. 05A hint corrects one unfinished or incorrect cell and adds to the hint count. Undo restores recent effective actions, up to 256. Restart resets the current puzzle; Next Puzzle can skip ahead while playing. After a win, the next puzzle starts automatically in three seconds; choose Continue now or Stay here. The final puzzle stays on screen.

Nonogram tips and strategies

Check the spaces between runs

Add the clue lengths and reserve at least one empty cell between each pair of runs. This shows how much room is left for their possible positions.

Use both directions

A filled cell must fit a run in its row and a run in its column. Recheck both sets of clues as the picture develops.

Leave certain blanks unmarked

Cross cells that the clues rule out, or leave them blank. The picture can be complete without crossing every empty cell.

  • Add the run lengths and the required spaces between them. If the total is already the line length, the run positions are fixed.
  • Compare row and column clues together. A cell must fit both its row pattern and its column pattern.
  • Mark a cell as crossed when the clues show it cannot be filled. You can also leave empty cells blank when the picture is complete.
  • Use Pan to reach another part of the board on a small screen; it only moves the view and does not mark cells.

Nonogram FAQ

How many puzzles are included?

There are 36 original puzzles: six on a 5×5 grid and 30 on a 10×10 grid. Each has a unique solution.

Do I need to cross every empty cell?

No. A puzzle is complete when all filled cells are correct and no empty cell is marked as filled. Empty cells may stay blank or be crossed.

What does a hint do?

It corrects one unfinished or incorrect cell to match the picture, then increases the hint count.

Will my progress be saved?

The board is not saved between visits. Restart clears the current puzzle, and Next Puzzle selects another puzzle from the included set. A win starts the next puzzle after three seconds unless you choose Stay here; Continue now skips the wait.

Does a blank clue mean the line has no filled cells?

Yes. A line with no filled cells is shown with a clue of 0.

Must I cross every empty cell to finish?

No. Empty cells may remain blank or be crossed. The filled cells must match the picture, and no empty cell can be marked as filled.

Can I undo a hint or a drag?

Yes. A hint and a completed drag are effective actions that can be undone, up to the 256-action history limit.
