About Screw Puzzle
Screw Puzzle is a nuts and bolts puzzle about releasing overlapping plates. Move an exposed screw into an empty, exposed hole. A plate comes off when both of its socket holes are empty, revealing any holes it covered. Play all 99 original assemblies online for free without a download or account.
The challenge is the order of removal and the available parking space for screws. Covered holes cannot be selected, even when they look empty beneath a plate. You win by removing every plate; screws can remain in uncovered board holes. The falling of a freed plate is only an animation; this is a logic puzzle, not a physics simulation.
How to play Screw Puzzle
- 01Select an exposed screw, then an empty exposed hole to move it. Tap another exposed screw to change selection for free; covered holes cannot be used.
- 02When a plate has no screws left in its socket holes, it comes off and reveals the holes beneath it. Moving into a plate’s socket fastens it again.
- 03Remove every plate to win. Screws may remain in the board’s uncovered holes; undo restores both screws and removed plates.
Screw Puzzle controls
- Mouse or touch
- Select an exposed screw; it lifts and dashed rings mark the empty holes it can move to. Tap an empty hole to move it, another exposed screw to change selection, or the same screw to cancel. Changing selection costs no move.
- Keyboard
- Tab between accessible holes and press Enter or Space to select a source or destination. Escape cancels the selected screw.
- Recover an assembly
- Undo restores the previous screws and plates. Restart returns the full starting assembly.
Screw Puzzle: levels and progress
The first assembly has two plates. Levels 2–20 use three, 21–50 use four, and 51–99 use five. Each plate has two sockets; overlapping branches constrain which lower holes are accessible. The board starts with two empty spare holes. Levels progress by dependency depth first, then by initially blocked sockets; swapping equivalent left/right sockets does not count as a new assembly. Revised records are stored separately.
Every assembly can be cleared by moving each original screw once. The target is 4, 6, 8 or 10 moves, matching the starting screw count. Try to clear it without extra moves. All 99 levels are selectable; completed records stay in this browser when storage is available, while unfinished assemblies reset on reload.
Screw Puzzle tips and strategies
Release the plate that opens working space
Removing an upper plate may expose several lower holes. Before moving a screw, inspect which plate covers your next destination and whether releasing it will make a lower pair accessible.
Avoid refastening the plate you are clearing
Moving a screw into a socket of an active plate keeps that plate attached. When possible, park screws in exposed holes outside the plates you want to remove next. If parking space becomes trapped, Undo lets you try a different removal order.
- Look at the upper plates first. Their branches cover lower holes, so releasing them can open useful space.
- Avoid fastening a nearly released plate again. All 99 starting assemblies have a valid removal sequence.
Screw Puzzle FAQ
Is this screw puzzle game free online?
All 99 nuts and bolts puzzles are free in your browser. No download, account or payment is needed.
Why can’t I move some screws?
A higher plate covers that hole, or the destination is occupied. First free an exposed screw and an empty accessible hole; use undo if the assembly gets stuck.
Why has a plate not come off after one screw is removed?
Both socket holes must be empty. Removing only one screw leaves the other fastening in place; putting another screw into either socket also keeps the active plate attached.
Do I have to remove every screw from the board?
No. The goal is to release every plate. Screws remaining in uncovered holes are allowed, and the level finishes as soon as no plates remain.
Are these the same levels as a screw puzzle app?
No. These 99 assemblies belong to this browser game. Guides for another app’s numbered level are not a walkthrough for this version.
Is there a timer or a paid extra-hole option?
There is no countdown or paid extra-hole mechanic. Solve with the supplied holes, use Undo or Restart, or choose a different level.
